Music Director Xian Zhang kicks off her 10th season with the New Jersey Symphony with Hymn for Everyone, an echo of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” composed by longtime collaborator Jessie Montgomery. The Symphony is then joined by Joyce Yang for Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 before closing out the program with Dvořák’s tuneful Symphony No. 8.

Markus Stenz joins the New Jersey Symphony as he conducts Berlioz’s glorious Roman Carnival Overture and the East Coast Premiere of Anna Clyne’s ATLAS featuring Symphony favorite Jeremy Denk. The program concludes with the Symphony performing the composition that made Ludwig van Beethoven a household name, his groundbreaking “Eroica” Symphony.

A whole new world will be experienced as HD images of nature are projected with the performances of Caroline Shaw’s The Observatory and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, the latter featuring violinist Nancy Zhou. Then, with stunning HD images from NASA, experience the solar system like never before in a “hold your breath” performance of Holst’s The Planets.

Rising cello sensation Sterling Elliott joins the New Jersey Symphony as he takes the stage to perform Schumann’s soaring Cello Concerto, which the composer wrote with his heart on his sleeve. Surrounding it, guest conductor Joseph Young leads the Symphony in performances of Jessie Montgomery’s Snapshots, a New Jersey Symphony Co-Commission, and Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

It’s a program showcasing the artistry of the New Jersey Symphony musicians as the orchestra performs Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik and “Haffner” Symphony, along with Michael Abels’ Delights and Dances. Then, Concertmaster Eric Wyrick leads the way as the musicians deliver a performance of Vivaldi’s delightful four movement composition, The Four Seasons.

A flavorful program awaits as Music Director Xian Zhang leads the New Jersey Symphony in Kodály’s Dances of Galánta and J.S. Bach’s Oboe d’Amore Concerto, with New Jersey Symphony Oboist Andrew Adelson stepping into the spotlight to perform solo. Then, soprano Jana McIntyre, tenor Andrew Morstein and baritone Hugh Russell join the Symphony and Montclair State University Chorale for Orff’s medieval masterpiece, the dramatically colorful Carmina Burana.

Principal Oboe Robert Ingliss steps into the spotlight as he solos in Strauss’ Oboe Concerto, a masterpiece for his instrument. Bookending this solo performance is Music Director Xian Zhang conducting the world premiere of Chen Yi’s Landscape Impression and Stravinsky’s Suite from Pulcinella, both of which the New Jersey Symphony performed during their Centennial season.

Music Director Xian Zhang leads the New Jersey Symphony as she conducts Tchaikovsky’s most beloved symphony, his electrifying and hopeful Fifth Symphony. Also featured on the program is NightVision, a virtuosic composition that launched the career of composer and Dean of Juilliard David Ludwig, and Mozart’s stormy and dramatic Piano Concerto No. 24 featuring Tom Borrow, dubbed as “the very definition of ‘one to watch’” by International Piano.

Two New Jersey Symphony favorites return for a program of love and dreams. Former Associate Conductor Gemma New takes the podium to conduct Sarah Gibson’s colorful warp & weft and Berlioz’s extraordinary Symphonie fantastique. In between these pieces, George Li dazzles the audience as he performs alongside New and the Symphony in Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Eric Jacobsen joins the New Jersey Symphony to conduct a program that centers on honoring the lives of those that were lost, beginning with Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. Then, Tiffany Townsend takes the spotlight to perform Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Lilacs before she and the Symphony are joined by Reginald Smith Jr. and the Montclair State University Chorale for Fauré’s divine choral-orchestral masterpiece, Requiem.

Nicholas McGegan leads the New Jersey Symphony as he conducts Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Overture to L’amante anonyme, with violinist Augustin Hadelich joining for Saint-Georges’ Violin Concerto, Op. 5, No. 2 and Beethoven’s Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2. In between these pieces, former Music Director Neeme Järvi returns to conduct William Grant Still’s most beloved work, his “Afro-American” Symphony.

Xian Zhang and the New Jersey Symphony bring out the best of Tchaikovsky with three of his most famous works: Capriccio italien, the fantasy-overture of Romeo and Juliet and his Suite from Swan Lake. Plus, Daniil Trifonov makes his second appearance as the 2021–22 season’s Artist-in-Residence to perform a concerto that was written for him by DJ and composer Mason Bates.
